GENIA provides services to support adults who cannot manage their personal or financial affairs due to age, disability, or illness. Core services include:

  • Guardianship: Making decisions about personal care, medical treatment, housing, and safety for individuals legally deemed unable to do so.

  • Conservatorship: Managing finances, assets, and property on behalf of individuals who are unable to handle their financial affairs.

  • Representative Payee: Managing Social Security or VA benefits for individuals who cannot do so independently.

  • Supportive Decision-Making & Advocacy: Ensuring the well-being and protection of vulnerable adults through person-centered care and compliance with state-mandated guardianship standards.

Which Services are Right?

We offer guardianship services, payee services, estate, trust, and conservatorship services. Services are available as private pay, and we are proudly contracted through the Office of the Public Guardian.

Individuals are best served by applying for state services when they have no funds to pay for guardianship services, and no natural supports to step in to serve as their guardian.

Private pay services may be an option when an individual has the funds to pay for our services.

How to Apply for Services

If an individual is interested in private pay services

To begin the application process, call our office at 563-419-2443, or send an email to info@guardiansofneia.org.

Eligibility is based on availability of funding, an individual's unique situation, and availability of staff.

If an individual needs state provided services

The Office of the Public Guardian has an application process to get individuals qualified for services. After the advocate interested in applying on behalf of the individual has read through what is required to qualify, they can apply for them to become a protected person.

Once an individual qualifies to become a protected person, they will most often be placed on a waiting list for services. Individuals are placed on the list in the order in which they applied. Once it is their turn to receive guardianship services, the Office of the Public Guardian assigns the protected person to the appropriate contractor for services. Assignments are based on location of services needed.
